SPRING
RALLY 2009 NEWS: Update 4/24/09
2009 Spring Rally IS ON! Leaner and Meaner the before! Here as some bullet
points to remember...
|
Wild Fires around the Myrtle Beach area will have NO effect on the rally. As of the 4/24/09 the fires are under control and the areas effected include northeast of Myrtle Beach (see fire map provided by The Sun News). Sections of 90, Hwy 31 and Hwy 22 may be currently be closed but should open up before the rally. Bearfoot Resort lost some homes (see map provided by TV13 scnow.com) and smoke from that may have effected the air quality at Bearfoot Landing Shopping area temporarily. But all shopping areas on the north and south side of Myrtle Beach are not affected. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of this tragedy. Jamin' Leather is planning a Fire Sale promotion to give 30% of selected items to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief who is dilligently helping all the families displaced by the fires.
Despite all the negative publicity in the media we suspect that the rally for 2009 will be controversially strong. Expect a few changes this year, like no events or vendors in the City of Myrtle Beach. There will be vendors (less than last year) as expected at Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson (who happens not to be located in the city limits), Inlet Square Mall, SBB, Myrtle Beach Race Track, and Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach. This is all we are aware of to date. Keep checking the link to the Events link on the left to see what everyone else is doing.
Businesses can Enter their Events, Specials and Information for FREE! The new name of the rally will be promoted as the "CRUISIN' THE GRAND STRAND... except Myrtle Beach... RALLY!". Area businesses will be promoting this event like never before to maintain the level of rally this area always come to love.
Voice your opinion on how Myrtle Beach area is handling the future of the Rally! MyrtleBeachRallies.com BLOG If you want us to add a topic drop us a line.
Commentary
Right Church, Wrong Pew...
Hi guys (& gals), just wanted to throw my 2 cents worth in about the
"Anti"-Myrtle Beach Rally. First of all I am all for boycotting
the cities of Myrtle Beach AND Surfside (they are really the ones who
started this turd rolling). But in my opinion we are going about it the
wrong way. First I think any and all businesses except for any bike stores
and/or bike oriented stores such as Jammin Leathers (free plug) should
be boycotted all together. By businesses I mean any store, restaurant,
motel, hotel, bar, gas station, etc, etc, etc. Stay out of them all together
if possible. There's still plenty of places to get what you want, need,
and to stay at outside these cities limits. But as far as this riding
around the outskirts of these cities and avoiding them, I think we have
it wrong. In my opinion if we avoid Myrtle Beach and Surfside we are doing
EXACTLY what they want. No I think we need to make our presence VERY known
to them. Let them know that we are not going anywhere! The best way I
know to do that is to be seen and be heard! I think we should ride in
and around both cities. Ride up and down their streets (lawfully of course)
24 hours a day all Bikeweek(s) long. Ride in groups, large and small;
or by yourself if need be. But if you see a group riding through, join
in behind them. Just make sure you have helmets on and your pipes are
within legal noise levels. And for that matter, fill the parking lots
with bikes down there too while we're at it. But only park 2 bikes per
parking spot as the new law states; which I think is totally absurd. (I
have never seen 3 or more bikes try to cram into a single parking spot.
For that matter I usually try to take a whole spot by myself if possible
so I don't hit another bike when I'm leaving. But at the most I will share
a spot with one other bike). Above all just remember to ride safe and
legal. Don't give the police any reason to pull you over. No burn outs,
no speeding, no drugs, no drinking and riding. People that do things like
that are the reason these towns have cracked down on the bikers and THEY
are the ones that should be held accountable, not all of us. But you CAN
play their games by their rules and STILL come out victorious. The businesses
can not afford the loss in revenues with this economy we're in and they
have a LARGE voice in the City Councils. I guarantee if we do this and
then leave all the business owners with empty pockets this will all go
away probably as soon as the Fall Rally.
Like I said, this is just my opinion. Like most, some will think it stinks.
But I for one will be riding up and down their streets every free moment
I have. So come join me! I served this great country and fought hard for
our rights and freedoms and I'll be darned (radio edit) if I'll let anyone
take them away from me!
Ride Safe!

Vistor Comments:
"My wife and I are avid Harley Riders, and have been coming to the Myrtle Beach Rallies for years. In fact, we own some property just to the north at Holden Beach, N.C., so this was a way for us to take our vacation and attend the rally at the same time. Well, Myrtle Beach, I have seen what something like this can do for the local economy. Here in the Asheville Area of N.C., the Honda Hoot was a annual happening, and the riders poured dollar after dollar into the the local economy. Well, just as M.B. is doing, our lovely local government didn't only pose restriction on the bikers. They stopped the rally completely, and that is slowly what is going to happen in S.C.... (continued....). Sorry Myrtle Beach. You're just cutting your throats................" Mike D.
