FALL RALLY 2010 NEWS: NO HELMET LAW! Yea! In a huge victory for bikers, the South Carolina Supreme Court unanimously ruled against the City of Myrtle Beach's controversial motorcycle helmet ordinance. Stating that a local municipality does not have the right to supersede state law, the helmet law was ruled invalid and struck down effective immediately. The city was ordered to expunge the record of any violators and return all fines collected.
The Myrtle Beach helmet and other laws that have been recently overturned have significantly impacted all businesses in this area. The actions of the Myrtle Beach City Council, whether directly or indirectly, cost Jamin' Leather over a half a Million Dollars in income for 2009. "The loss of bike week business is a loss in returning mail order customers year round! Now it's time to rebuild the rally", says Mr. Keats, President of Jamin' Leather Inc.
While we encourage everyone to ride as safely as possible, we believe it is the right of the individual to determine the protection they feel is most appropriate. And if you so choose, we are proud to offer a huge selection of protective leather and other gear, including helmets and we hope you will shop with us.
AKA. Myrtle Beach Bike Week, the 2010 Grand Strand Fall Rally IS ON!
FUTURE OF MYRTLE BEACH BIKE WEEK: aka Grand Strand Bike Rally. Aside from Jamin' Leather, the overwhelming majority of area residents and businesses are very pleased by the ruling and can't wait to welcome Rally goers in the fall which is scheduled for Sept 29th to Oct 3rd.
Word of the ruling is spreading quickly and we have already talked with numerous bikers who plan to be here for the Fall Bike Rally. If this keeps up, we should have a great turn out! Jamin' Leather will continue to be your source for all the latest Rally News and Area Event Listings.
But still DON'T call Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. They will only tell you that they are not having bike rallies anymore. What they really mean is that Myrtle Beach City is not sponsoring events or permitting vendors in the city limits for any motorcycle related events under current regulations. The Grand Strand area is approximately 60 miles of beaches and is planning on welcoming you, regardless what the City says or does. So come and enjoy all the benefits as always that this area has to offer. Anyway, here as some bullet points to remember if you come to the Rally...
